First released in 2007, the Volkswagen Tiguan has remained at the top of its class in terms of features, technology, and safety. Since drivers have more options than ever, it’s helpful to know what sets the Tiguan apart from comparable makes and models. Learn more about how the Tiguan stands above the crowd when it’s time to choose your next new vehicle.
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick + in the mid-size/4-door SUV category. Its highest ratings were in vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention with high ratings in other categories including crashworthiness. However, there’s a whole range of safety features that are there to help you prevent collisions in the first place. A Rear Camera System, Driver Assistance, and IQ.DRIVE are all options that alert you with visual and audio cues with built-in features like Lane Assist and a Dynamic Road Sign Display. The post-collision system includes automatic braking if a collision is inevitable and the safety cage keeps you safe and protected.
In addition to safety, the 2023 Tiguan includes features that make for a more convenient and comfortable drive. It’s available in two or three rows with a max cargo area of 73.4 cubic feet, coming out near the top of other comparable vehicles. Five trim levels give the option to choose the features you’re looking for and leave out the rest, leather seating and steering wheel. An instrument display and an infotainment touchscreen are standard at all trims, and App-Connect compatibility is a built-in feature for all, and optional packages add even more features like a panoramic sunroof and VW Digital Cockpit.
Both 4Motion AWD and Driving Mode Selection are standard on the higher trims, all of which have the standard 2.0L Turbo Engine with 8-speed automatic transmission. The 184-horsepower engine, when equipped with 4Motion, gives our drive mode options: snow, on-road, off-road, and off-road custom. These options allow you to dial down the power when you don’t need it to save on fuel, or turn it on to suit the conditions for a safer drive. You can also stick with the standard FWD drivetrain standard on some trims.
