As the name implies, Volkswagen’s ID.XTREME concept takes off-roading to new heights. The recently-revealed concept car, based on the existing ID.4 GTX, adds amplified features and details to the next level for its maximum potential. The ID.XTREME concept gives a peek into an all-electric future with capable vehicles that are ready to hit sand, rocks, and trails as easily as the pavement.
Although the ID.XTREME is still in concept, it takes inspiration from an existing model in VW’s lineup. By building on the test version of the GTX only available across the pond, the XTREME takes the all-electric crossover to a new level – literally. With a raises suspension and 18-inch off-road wheels, it’s able to tackle the terrain without compromise. Assisted by an extra 87 horsepower than the GTX, the XTREME’s total 382 horsepower motor is set within a modular electric driving matrix, or MEB. In its current form, MEB is an expertly designed body made specifically for Volkswagen’s electric vehicle range. By creating a long wheelbase with short overhang, the potential for design and performance is higher than ever.
Adding more off-road details to the mix, the wheels are designed with an extra 1.9-inch 3D printed wheel arches to make way for the off-road tires. The redesigned bumper with bull bar, LED light bar, dual-motor AWD, and aluminum-plated underbody are all additional features that add to the look and function of off-road capability. The wheels generate a unique sound as they hit the road or the trails for a unique experience. Rally-inspired details are brought to the interior with the Alcantara microfiber accents with orange accents and redesigned seats.
