Volkswagen Reveals the ID.7
Volkswagen recently unveiled the ID.7, and we at Volkswagen of Duluth can’t wait to see the model come to our showroom. The ID.7 is a sleek battery electric fastback sedan. It will be the third battery electric vehicle from Volkswagen to be sold in the U.S., following closely on the heels of the ID.Buzz and the ID.4 compact crossover currently in our inventory.
The ID.7 is a large spacious sedan with an overall length of 195.5 inches. For reference, the length of the VW Arteon is 191.5 inches. The ID.7 uses the corporate MEB EV platform but with a completely new, highly-efficient drivetrain. The new motor is rated at 282 horsepower, making it the most powerful and highest-torque electric motor in a Volkswagen EV model. That motor will be mounted between the rear wheels on rear-wheel drive models. Battery size has not been announced, but a range of 300 miles is expected for rear-drive models and is designed to have a DC fast charging ability of up to about 200 kW. Like the ID.4 and ID.Buzz models, all-wheel drive models will have a second motor in the front though figures for that configuration have not yet been announced.
Sleek with Utility
A 4-door fastback is one of the industry’s most inherently aerodynamic body styles, and Volkswagen took full advantage of this with the sleek design of the ID.7. Like a coupe, Its roof slopes elegantly to the rear, which contributes to an excellent drag coefficient of as low as 0.23. The rear is also a hatch hinged above the rear window to allow easy access to a large cargo area. The long wheelbase and short overhangs contribute to plenty of space in the interior for all occupants.
All-New Interior Control Systems
The ID.7 will introduce a new operations and display system which includes a standard 15-inch infotainment screen. Also standard will be an augmented reality head-up display over a minimalist just-the-facts driver display. In a brilliant combination of display and physical controls, temperature and volume will be controlled via physical backlit sliders with display feedback on the center display just above. A new smart climate control system can start as you approach the vehicle and automatically oscillate the vents to cool or warm the interior more quickly and efficiently.
The front seats will be available with a message function and will feature a new heating and cooling system that features a drying function. A panoramic roof above can be switched from transparent to opaque via touch control, or like many other systems, you can use the voice command system starting with “Hey…” and a name of your choosing. Topping off the interior highlights is a 700-watt 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
At this point, there is still much more to learn about the ID.7. There is time for that, as the ID.7 is expected to appear in the VW of Duluth inventory and that of other North American dealers in 2024 as a 2025 model. In the meantime, you can get a taste of the Volkswagen approach to electric vehicles with the ID.4 crossover currently in stock.
