VW Receives Top Marks for Car Seat SafetyWhat is the Cars.com Car Seat Report?

Cars.com has evaluated more than 700 vehicles since the Car Seat Fit Report Card program began in 2010, and 2023’s testing involved 56 vehicles. During the tests, a certified safety technician installs an infant car seat, a convertible car seat, and a booster seat. They examine the vehicle’s Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children system, known as LATCH. Technicians tested seats in the second-row seats, and if the vehicles had third-row seats, they evaluated forward-facing child seats for ease of accessibility.

They not only each sport a sizable backseat without compromising on passenger legroom, installing car seats is painless – with both easily acing our Car Seat Check.”

Beyond car seat fits, both the Tiguan and ID.4 earned top marks in crash testing performed by the Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety. The Tiguan grabbed a Top Safety Pick + award in 2022, which included “Good” scores in all crash-test categories. The IIHS awarded the ID.4 a Top Safety Pick + for 2023, including a “Good” score in the organization’s updated side-crash test.

IIHS officials updated the testing criteria for 2023 to account for the heavier, larger vehicles that rule our roads today. Side-impact testing now uses far more force, and the change knocked several vehicles off the Top Safety Pick list. Though the Tiguan earned an award in 2022, it hasn’t received complete testing in 2023.
