Car and Driver Names Six Volkswagen Models for Editor’s Choice Selection
Volkswagen of Duluth is proud to announce that Car and Driver magazine has named six Volkswagen models to the magazine’s Editors’ Choice list for 2023. These vehicles include:
- Golf GTI
- Golf R
- ID.4
- Jetta GLI
- Taos
- Tiguan
The list consists of 125 vehicles out of more than 400 models that Car and Driver editors tested in the past year. Based on the testing results, vehicles are then judged on how each ranks within its segment, how well it fulfills its intended mission, plus the editors’ subjective evaluations of each vehicle’s performance. In describing this list, Car and Driver says: “These are vehicles that we’d happily recommend to our family and friends – and you. That’s what Editors’ Choice is all about. Think of this list as the automotive honor roll: a place where the cars, trucks, and SUVs with the best grades are acknowledged for their excellence.”
In response, Hein Schafer, Senior Vice President of Sales, for Volkswagen of America says: “We’re honored to see so many of our models named to the Editors’ Choice list. These vehicles represent the best of what Volkswagen offers and what Americans love to drive. Their combination of smart packaging, safety features, and great driving dynamics, all at a great value, is something we’re proud of, and we’re happy to see them recognized.”
Here is a little more about each of the Volkswagen models on the list:
Volkswagen Golf GTI
The term “hot hatch” was created for the Golf GTI when it launched in 1976 and the model has defined it ever since. The eighth-generation GTI gets more sophisticated and refined while embodying the very same formula – style, power, and playful performance.
“The supreme driving delights of a Golf GTI come wrapped in a compact package of practicality and value.” – Car and Driver
Volkswagen Golf R
Since its debut in 2004, the range-topping Golf R has delivered extraordinary performance in a practical understated package. This fifth-generation Golf R continues to up the ante with new race-inspired content and premium features.
“Recommended daily dose of horsepower and torque, exquisite handling behavior, any excuse to drive one is the right one.” – Car and Driver
Volkswagen ID.4
The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first global EV and its first electric SUV. Using the MEB electric vehicle architecture that will underlie several ID models to come, it marries the utility of an SUV with a high level of innovation and the performance, packaging, and sophistication of a purpose-built EV.
“Practical and cargo-friendly cabin, decent driving range with the larger battery pack, quiet when cruising.” – Car and Driver
Volkswagen Jetta GLI
For more than four decades, the Jetta has defined affordable German engineering and for most of that time, was Volkswagen’s best-selling model in the U.S. The current Jetta was refreshed for 2022, with revised styling and new technology.
“An engine with a kick, confident handling, civilized ride.” – Car and Driver
Volkswagen Taos
The Taos resides in the U.S.’s most competitive and best-selling segment. Taos brings to the party Volkswagen’s signature driving dynamics, timeless exterior design, a practical but refined interior, advanced technology, and its available 4Motion® all-wheel drive.
“With an attractively low base price, the Volkswagen Taos offers big fuel mileage along with big space for such a small SUV.” – Car and Driver
Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen sandwiches the popular compact SUV with the smaller Taos and the larger Tiguan. The Tiguan combines European driving dynamics with a spacious interior and flexible seating. It is currently the brand’s best-selling model.
“The Tiguan is a stylish, European take on an American favorite and its crisp handling is a breath of fresh air.” – Car and Driver
