2024 ID.4 Contains Consumer Requested Updates
Time flies, as evidenced by the fact that Volkswagen of Duluth has been selling the battery electric ID.4 model for almost three years now. For the 2024 model year, the ID.4 still looks similar, but after responding to consumer suggestions, it has some significant changes within. The major changes include a new performance drive unit that delivers greater performance and expected range enhancement, an improved infotainment display, and a new premium audio system, among other features.Â
More Power
ID.4 models with the larger 82 kWh battery will be equipped with a new performance drive unit that delivers greater horsepower and range compared to the prior model year. In the past, we could speak of greater displacement, more cylinders, more turbo boost, better intake or exhaust flow, or some such mechanical enhancement. But in this electric motor world, we can simply point out that for the rear-drive model, the system now produces an impressive 282 horsepower as compared to 201, while the all-wheel-drive model’s front and rear motors now make around 330 horsepower, compared to the previous 295. This increase in power helps to boost acceleration and is also anticipated to deliver enhanced range though the EPA range estimates are not yet available.Â
Models with the large battery also will get a slightly larger 12.9-inch infotainment display accompanied by backlit slider controls as well a new and more intuitive climate control interface and a revised infotainment menu. The interior of all models benefits from a new shifter position and a revised steering wheel layout.
More Tech and Comfort
ID.4 S models with the 82 kWh battery now have the added comfort of ventilated front-row seats, and S Plus models receive a 9-speaker premium Harman/KardonTM audio system with a subwoofer and 16-channel amplifier.
More Wheel
The exterior appearance is enhanced by 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels on AWD models growing to 21-inch machine-finished wheels for the S Plus grades.
Unchanged is that ID.4 models will continue to be assembled in Chattanooga, TN, with more than enough U.S. content to be fully eligible for the full $7,500 Federal tax credit. It is presently the only foreign automaker to have an EV with such a qualification.
As before, the ID.4 will be available in Standard, Pro, S, Pro S, and Pro S trim levels with the choice of 62 kWh or 82 kWh batteries, as well as rear-wheel- or all-wheel drive.
The 2024 ID.4 will find its way to Volkswagen of Duluth and all other VW dealerships in early 2024, and pricing can be expected to be announced closer to that time.
